Oral history, 1988.

Interview conducted by Alan Cherry as part of the LDS Afro-American Oral History Project of the Charles Redd Center for Western Studies at Brigham Young University on 9 March 1988. Porter talks of his early experiences in Indianapolis, Indiana, the merchant marines, and the military. He tells of his religious experiences, his conversion to the Mormon Church, a period of inactivity in that Church, and his decision to return to full activity. He comments on its influence on his present life.
